About the role

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to drive maturation of the approach risk and compliance at Australia’s leading retailer and supplier of office products and solutions for home, business and education needs.  As the Head of Risk and Compliance Manager, you will bring your deep experience in developing, implementing, and operationalising risk management and compliance frameworks in a practical way that supports the achievement of Officeworks’ strategic objectives.  Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will ensure risk management and compliance is embedded within the decision-making process at Officeworks by:

  • Working with the business to plan, design and implement risk  and compliance management processes, controls and assurance mechanisms to monitor existing risks and/or identify emerging risks and ensure the business is operating within its stated risk appetite
  • Provide advice and guidance to ensure that current and emerging risks and compliance requirements are identified and effectively managed in line with policies and procedures.
  • Co-ordinate preparation of quarterly Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee Meeting papers (attended by both WES and Officeworks representatives), including liaising with ‘risk owners’ around content of papers.
  • Identifying new/emerging compliance obligations, managing the legislative change process and coordinating the creation and implementation of applicable policies and procedures to facilitate legislative change with input from the relevant Officeworks function and Senior Legal Counsel;
  • Working with key stakeholders in Officeworks and Wesfarmers to develop an assurance map across all lines of assurance, specific to Officeworks key processes
  • You will act as the Ani-Bribery, Protected Disclosure and Privacy officer

About you

You will excel in this role if you are someone who can solve problems and have a passion for what you do with hands-on and leadership experience in Risk, Compliance or Business Operational. You should have strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to write and then rollout compliance policies and programs across a large business. You should like to work autonomously whilst understanding the need to collaborate more broadly. Ideally, you will have:

  • Relevant leadership experience (5 years+) in risk and compliance, operational, consultancy, or audit role.
  • Practical experience in implementing and administering corporate or enterprise compliance / risk management programs.
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment, particularly in the retail industry
  • Detailed working knowledge of ISO 31000:2018 and ISO37301:2021
  • Strong communication, presentation, stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills
