About the role

Managing a regional team of 4, the National Safety Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of best practice strategic safety direction for all stores, CFCs and Support offices at Officeworks. A key focus of the role is driving continuous improvement to reduce team member injuries and overall incidents including critical risks. You will  work with Functional Heads, Market Operations Managers and State Safety Partners to implement these strategies and programs with the aim of reducing OHS incidents across the group.

You will:

  • Participate in and provide input into the OHS strategic planning & development processes to ensure local needs are met in a nationally consistent manner.
  • Aid in the development of safety plans for all divisions to enable Health and Safety strategies to be implemented and achieved.
  • Develop strategic safety projects based on common injury themes to continually improve a reduction in injuries
  • Provide advice, coaching and support to and the overall business regarding all areas of the Stay Safe Systems to ensure a safe place of work.
  • Analyse and implement actions plans with support from the IM & Governance Lead as a result of Self Insurance internal and external regulator audit programs.
  • Implement/develop and assist with facilitation of training to the local business according to the required standards and processes in all areas of the STAY SAFE strategy.
  • Compile and report on Safety trends and provide information to the 3 markets and all other Key Stakeholders


About you

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a minimum of 7 years in a senior health and safety leadership role within a medium to large commercial enterprise (Retail experience an advantage). Further you will demonstrate:

  • Extensive expert knowledge of H&S Acts, regulations, and codes
  • Demonstrable experience in leading teams to identify and address HR/health and safety issues, including the design, delivery and evaluation of WHS&W programs, systems and processes
  • Knowledge of contemporary wellbeing factors and application to WHS&W strategies
  • Strong reporting and analytical skills to identify WHS drivers
  • Excellent stakeholder management and consultation skills required to identify and influence desired outcomes.
