About the role

We have an exciting new role within our Sustainable Development  team that has been created to uphold Officeworks’ commitment to sustainable sourcing and support our team in the sourcing and design of sustainable products as part of our commitment to help customers shop sustainably. This is part of Officeworks Positive Difference Plan 2025, in which we aim to put people and the planet at the heart of what we do.

As Sustainable Materials Manager you will be responsible for the ongoing support and implementation of Officeworks’ sustainable and responsible sourcing requirements. You will provide regular compliance reporting and ensure key internal and external stakeholders understand sustainable sourcing issues for our business.  As the subject matter expert, you will provide guidance to buyers, sourcing agents and suppliers to help design and source products manufactured from sustainable materials, whilst ensuring compliance requirements are met and supply chain traceability and transparency requirements are achieved.

Key focus areas of the role will include:

  • Support new suppliers through the on-boarding process, educating them about the sustainable and responsible sourcing requirements, and working with them to complete the appropriate due diligence requirements.
  • Provide regular business compliance reporting, including for monthly and annual reports across forestry and sustainable materials compliance.
  • Review and contribute to marketing material to educate consumers whilst ensuring advertising materials meet appropriate environmental standards
  • Monitor emerging trends and risks associated with the sourcing of sustainable materials.
  • Play a key role in ensuring that Officeworks achieves the Positive Difference Plan 2025 commitments including zero-deforestation in the supply chain, providing a wider range of greener choices and phasing out problematic plastics.

 

About you

Our successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in environmental sourcing, compliance issues certification  surrounding sustainability. You will have been working in the field for 5+ years and ideally have experience coordinating a broad ranging and dynamic sustainability issues and materials. Further you will;

  • Possess Relevant tertiary qualifications in an environmental, sustainability or risk related discipline.
  • Have detailed knowledge of social compliance drivers
  • Be highly analytical with ability to interpret complex data and use effective research tools
  • Excellent communication skills to persuade and influence others effectively 
  • A passion for problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Have the ability to adapt to constantly evolving, fast-paced environments.
