Category Manager – Upgrade Plus, Payment Solutions & Telco

We’re on the hunt for a commercially savvy, customer-obsessed Category Manager to drive one of the most innovative and dynamic portfolios at Officeworks. You’ll lead our Upgrade+, Geeks2U Product Solutions, Gift Card product range, Payment Solutions, and Optus Post Paid Plans, owning the full product lifecycle and driving exciting growth.

 

From developing a compelling merchandise strategy to building strong supplier partnerships, you’ll bring bold ideas to life and deliver a market-leading, every-channel experience for our customers.

This is a high-impact role, where your ability to manage projects, interpret trends, negotiate with confidence, and lead cross-functional initiatives will shape the future of this exciting category.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and execute a customer-led category strategy aligned to Officeworks’ core pillars of widest range, low prices, and best experience
  • Own the full P&L – drive Sales, Net Margin, Inventory, GMROI, GMROS and EBIT
  • Deliver innovation through product development and exclusive offers, including private label opportunities
  • Collaborate with internal teams including IT, Digital, Finance, B2B, and Marketing to bring exciting new customer solutions to life
  • Lead and mentor a Category Assistant or Trainee Category Manager, building capability and growing future talent
  • Create strong partnerships with suppliers and negotiate category support and media investment
  • Use data, insights, and competitor analysis to continuously improve the category offer and deliver first-to-market opportunities
  • Ensure seamless execution across online and in-store customer touchpoints, with a focus on user experience, product visibility, and conversion
  • Champion customer and market research to better understand target audiences and deliver what they want, when and how they want it.

About you

You’re a seasoned Category Manager who thrives in a fast-moving environment. Commercially astute and customer-driven, you’re a strategic thinker with a passion for turning ideas into action.

 

 

With a strong track record in category management, you're confident managing projects end-to-end, have a sharp eye for trends, and can influence across all levels of the business.

 

 

 

Key attributes you’ll bring to the role:

  • Strong project management capability and proven success in launching new product ranges
  • Extensive category management experience,  with involvement in service-related categories
  • Deep understanding of financial performance metrics and levers (EBIT, margin, GMROI etc.)
  • Commercial negotiation skills and the ability to build trusted supplier relationships
  • Strong data literacy and analytical ability to uncover opportunities and drive improvement
  • Collaborative and engaging communicator with great stakeholder management skills
  • Passion for innovation, technology and services that enhance the customer experience
  • Ability to coach and develop others while leading by example

Tertiary qualifications in Business, Marketing, Commerce or a related field will be highly regarded.
