About the role

The Corporate Plan and Strategy Manager is a split role with two primary responsibilities: (i) owning and managing the annual corporate planning process and (ii) partnering with executive and senior leaders across the business to complete strategy development and delivery activities.
The first responsibility will involve leading the annual corporate plan process at Officeworks to set the strategic vision and priorities for the business over a five-year period. The position will have direct line-management responsibility of a Strategy Partner to support through the process and will involve heavy engagement with Officeworks’ executives and senior leaders across all business functions. The duration of the corporate plan process is typically six months (from September to March).
The second responsibility, outside of the corporate planning process, will involve partnering with senior stakeholders across the business to develop and deliver strategic business priorities and could include shaping and delivering strategies to grow, enhance profitability, drive productivity, and improve customer experience across Officeworks’ varied portfolio of businesses.
The role is a great opportunity to leverage skills from a consulting, strategy or transformation background and apply them to a dynamic industry role. This position provides the opportunity to think strategically, set direction and perform implementation activities to drive tangible business outcomes. It will allow you to develop a deep understanding of the business, establish relationships with cross-functional stakeholders at all levels and build the skills required to progress within the organisation. This is a high-influence position where you will need to build a case for change and take stakeholders along the journey to achieve outcomes. You will have the opportunity to coach, mentor and manage our Strategy Partners on a variety of assignments.
Key activities include:

  • Perform detailed analysis of the internal and external environment using common strategic frameworks to inform strategic decision-making and planning, and the formulation of recommendations
  • Formulate strategies and solutions to grow, enhance profitability and improve customer experience. Consider the pros and cons, trade-offs, implications and risks of a variety of options to make informed decisions
  • Develop business cases and conduct cost-benefit analysis to evaluate the impact of strategic initiatives. Work with business stakeholders to prepare investment requests and seek endorsement from executive stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross functional stakeholders and SMEs to understand, evaluate and execute opportunities to grow the business, such as category adjacencies, new customer solutions and segments and new markets
  • Prepare and facilitate cross-functional workshops with executive and senior leaders to drive engagement and alignment
  • Create corporate governance documents including the Corporate Plan to summarise long term strategic plans
  • Prepare presentations to summarise plans and communicate findings and recommendations to executive and senior leaders
  • Coach, mentor, supervise and provide professional development opportunities for Strategy Partners
