About the role

  • 12 month fixed-term

 

With some exciting changes rolling out in our stores over the next 12 months, this role requires a strategic, analytical, and collaborative approach to space planning, driving operational excellence and enhancing the customer experience across all Officeworks locations.

 

As Macro Space Manager you are a creative problem solver, our successful candidate will understand the financial impact of space planning decisions and is able to clearly articulate their insights and direction to key stakeholders. Experience with space-planning and/or floor planning principles coupled with ability to undertake analysis with a focus on ensuring we are optimising return on space, will stand you in good stead for this role.  

 

Reporting to the Space, Range & Display Manager and working closely with the commercial and key stakeholder teams, this key role is responsible for leading and optimising store layout planning across the Officeworks store network, through new stores and renewal programs, leading a high performing team.

 

Key focus areas:

Store Layout & Planning: Design, implement, and maintain store layouts in alignment with agreed store standards across the entire fleet.
Macro Space Strategy: Own and refine macro space principles, ensuring consistency in store flow and standards across all locations.
New & Refurbished Stores: Ensure adherence to store planning principles, overseeing the execution of layouts in new and refurbished stores.
Floorplan Management: Plan, manage, and approve all updated floorplans to align with Officeworks' strategic objectives.
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the team in developing and maintaining optimal store layouts, fostering collaboration and efficiency.
Space Optimisation & Analysis: Utilise data-driven insights to maximise space efficiency, balancing commercial, operational, and customer experience priorities.
Coaching & Development: Support team growth by implementing new ways of working, refining processes, and enhancing reporting to drive performance improvements.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong relationships with key business stakeholders, including the merchandise team, to ensure seamless execution of store planning initiatives.
Standards & Compliance: Contribute to store standards and ensure all change requests are documented and actioned effectively.
Workload & Resource Planning: Manage team workload and ensure effective resource allocation to meet business needs.
Continuous Improvement: Drive ongoing enhancements in floorplan performance metrics, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
Strategic Alignment: Evolve floor planning principles to support broader business objectives, including customer behaviour insights, strategy shifts, and in-store performance optimisation.
Category Planning Integration: Lead the Space Planning contribution to the category planning process, ensuring alignment with merchandising strategies.

About you

Ideally tertiary qualified in Merchandising or related, you will have exposure to space planning systems (Blue Yonder preferred) with 3 -5 years’ experience working within a complex retail environment and strong understanding of end-to-end category management principles.  

An established knowledge of theories and strategies driving space merchandising policies and procedures including fixture management, merchandising, ranging, and customer behaviour, is key. Strong mentorship skills will ensure your team are delivering positive outcomes for an easy and engaging in-store customer experience
