The team works hand-in-hand with the executive leadership team to iterate & communicate the enterprise-level strategy, develop & deliver functional strategies and manage our portfolio of cross-functional programs to achieve our vision. The Senior Manager, Strategy will partner across the business to complete activities along the end-to-end strategy development and delivery value chain playing a key role in enabling Officeworks to achieve its ambitious growth aspirations whilst embedding a robust productivity agenda. This role will partner with the Officeworks Leadership team (OLT) and senior leaders across the business to lead the development, iteration, communication and delivery of both functional and enterprise-level strategies.

About the role

The role is a great opportunity to leverage skills from a consulting and / or in-house corporate strategy background and apply to a dynamic industry role. This position provides the opportunity to influence the strategic direction of Officeworks to ensure long-term sustainable growth. It will allow you to develop a deep understanding of the business, establish relationships with cross-functional stakeholders at all levels and build the skills required to progress within the organisation. This is a high-influence position where you will need to build a case for change and take stakeholders along the journey to achieve outcomes. You will have the opportunity to coach, mentor and manage our Strategy Manager(s) and Partner(s). 

Key activities include:

  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of work and recommendation of priorities aligned to strategy
  • Lead a team to develop and deliver initiatives (programs), ensuring quality and timely completion
  • Allocate resources to deliver priorities
  • Act as a thought partner to the business with an enterprise-wide mindset
  • Develop and mentor team members, supporting them as required to achieve their objectives and build a high performing team
  • Build strong relationships and engage regularly with senior leaders and Officeworks Leadership Team and work cross functionally to achieve desired outcomes
  • Provide visibility of work being performed by team to keep business informed and engaged
  • Build business insight and knowledge into competitor activity as well as global and local retail benchmarking
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices to inform strategy
  • Evaluate potential merger and acquisition opportunities to support growth initiatives (when applicable)
  • Prepare strategy related reports, papers and presentations for senior leaders, the Officeworks Leadership Team and / or Board

About you

Tertiary qualified, with 10+ years of relevant industry and/or management consulting experience, with a focus on developing and delivering strategies. Experience and exposure to the retail sector is preferred. The successful candidate will be a structured, logical thinker who uses a data-led approach to identify opportunities and solve complex business problems. You are passionate about driving teams, working cross-functionally to come to aligned solutions, and are comfortable switching between blue-sky thinking and on-the-ground implementation.

  • You are an exceptional communicator with the ability to tell compelling business stories and articulate complex narratives.
  • You are comfortable preparing and facilitating workshops to a desired outcome with senior stakeholders.
  • You build strong stakeholder relationships, possess an ability to influence and establish yourself as a trusted advisor
  • You enjoy cross-functional engagement and working with team members across a variety of functions to achieve common goals
  • You are financially savvy and data literate
  • You are commercially astute and enjoy evaluating the trade-offs of key decisions to land on the most suitable option
  • You are a people leader and are motivated by building skill and capability in more junior team members
  • You have a high level of competency with MS Suite including PowerPoint and Excel
  • You are comfortable in a fast paced, ambiguous and changing environment; you welcome and embrace change
  • You are curious, eager to learn and are seeking a role that will support your long-term career growth
