About the role
As our Trade Planning Manager, you’ll set the strategy and lead the end-to-end planning and delivery of major trade events, including key peak periods such as Back to School, Black Friday and EOFY.
You’ll bring together teams from across the business to create a clear, integrated trade plan that delivers for our customers and drives strong commercial outcomes. From developing the customer proposition and setting performance objectives through to execution and post-event review, you’ll own the overarching plan and help ensure the business is aligned, ready and focused on the right priorities.
This is a highly visible and influential role where you’ll use customer, competitor and commercial insights to identify opportunities, manage risks and enable timely decision-making across our retail, digital and business channels. You’ll also lead and develop a Trade Planner, helping to build strong and consistent trade planning capability.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the strategy and end-to-end planning for major trade events, including Back to School, Black Friday and EOFY, developing clear customer propositions, objectives and measures of success.
- Own the annual major events and promotional calendar, ensuring key milestones, dependencies, risks and accountabilities are clearly defined and managed.
- Bring together cross-functional teams across Merchandise, Planning, Marketing, Supply Chain, Digital, Retail Operations, Finance and B2B to deliver one integrated omnichannel trade plan.
- Use customer, competitor, category and commercial insights to identify opportunities, shape decisions and optimise event performance across sales, margin, availability and customer experience.
- Establish strong governance and performance rhythms, providing senior leaders with clear visibility of event readiness, risks, results and areas requiring intervention.
- Lead continuous improvement and team capability, embedding learnings from each event into future plans while coaching and developing the Trade Planner.
About you
- Strong experience in retail trade planning, category management, merchandise planning or commercial planning, ideally within a large-scale omnichannel or general merchandise environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading major seasonal events, campaigns or complex commercial programs from strategy and planning through to execution and review.
- Strong commercial acumen, with a sound understanding of retail drivers including sales, margin, promotions, inventory, availability, market share and customer experience.
- Excellent program and project management capability, with experience managing integrated plans, critical paths, governance, risks and competing priorities.
- Exceptional stakeholder leadership and influencing skills, with the confidence to bring diverse teams and senior stakeholders together around a shared commercial plan.
- Strong analytical and customer-focused thinking, with the ability to turn complex insights into clear recommendations and practical actions, alongside experience coaching and developing others.
If you’re a strategic and commercially minded trade planning leader who loves bringing people together to turn great plans into great customer and commercial outcomes, we’d love to hear from you.
