Title:  Area Manager - ACT (and VIC/NSW Border)

Location:

North Rocks, Australian Capital Territory, AU

About us

At Officeworks we make bigger things happen. Our customers, our team, and our community are our heart and soul. And if our brilliant people have taught us anything, it is that we can do all kinds of incredible things, each and every day.

Fast paced. Innovative. Inspiring. With close to 10,000 team members and a national footprint of more than 173 retail stores Australia wide – we’re focused on delivering a wide range, low price and great service. We’re about inspiring new ideas and thinking outside the box. We’re about kicking goals, having a laugh and pushing each other. We are about being rewarded and supported. We’re about teaching a customer something new and supporting the community. We’re about making a difference.

About the role

As an Area Manager, you’ll bring our strategy to life by leading store performance, people, and operations. Based in ACT, you’ll spend most of your week in stores (around four days a week) and visiting multiple locations to support Store Leaders and their teams.

You’ll coach, mentor, and empower Store Leaders to deliver strong commercial outcomes, a safe and engaging workplace, and exceptional customer experiences. From driving P&L performance and managing shrinkage to building future leaders and strengthening our safety-first culture, you’ll make a real impact every day.

Key priorities include:

  • Driving safety, wellbeing, and compliance across all stores
  • Leading, developing, and coaching Store Leaders to deliver great results and live “Our Way”
  • Managing P&L performance, including sales, margin, and EBIT targets
  • Building high performing, engaged teams and strong succession pipelines
  • Partnering with support teams to improve stock, service, and operational standards
  • Leading change with energy and purpose while creating a positive, customer-focused culture

This role reports to an Operations Manager and includes some travel (occasional overnight stays).

You’re a hands-on, energetic leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and knows how to get the best out of people. You understand what great service looks like, and you’re commercially sharp – you know your way around a P&L, can explain EBIT in your sleep, and you make data-backed decisions quickly.

About you

You’re a people-first leader who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. You know how to balance commercial thinking with being a good human and coaching – and you’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves.

You’ll bring:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior multi-site retail or hospitality management role
  • Strong P&L ownership and financial acumen (you know your way around EBIT)
  • Proven success in leading large, diverse teams across multiple locations
  • Strong communication and influencing skills – you know how to get buy-in
  • A focus on safety, performance, and service excellence
  • A solutions mindset – you find ways to make things work, not reasons they can’t

Experience in retail, supermarkets, or hospitality area management will set you up for success.
